New Mexico – Bars Nightlife and Entertainment.
Now the first thing you need to learn before you even cross the New Mexico state line, is how to answer the question you are going to be asked at just about every restaurant visit. The question is : “red or green” in reference to which kind of chili pepper or “chile sauce” you want served with your meal – if you want both then the answer is “Christmas” (or “Navidad” in Spanish – from the two traditional colors of Christmas). Great foods here include the tamale, the fajita, and the enchilada, and you must must try them.
New Mexico with its strong Spanish, Mexican, and American Indian cultural influences, is unique. It maintains the highest percentage of Hispanic Americans as well as those of Native Americans (mainly Navajo and Pueblo). Admitted as the 47th state in the Union on January 6th 1912, the state capital is Santa Fe and the largest city Albuquerque.
Nightlife in New Mexico is more about finding good local chow, and then heading off to a local bar or club to enjoy some music, rather than parting through till dawn.
For the best nightlife in Albuquerque , head to either the Nob Hill or Downtown entertainment districts – you will find the largest concentration of places in walkable areas, safe, popular and when the University of New Mexico is in session – packed, especially at weekends. There are four casinos within easy drive of the downtown area (see below for the full list), and unlike most bars tend not to close at 11 pm.
In Santa Fe, you can literally spend your evenings dancing the night away in clubs such as Swig, Paramount, or the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, but do not forget the Santa Fe Opera.
The Santa Fe Opera is world-class – and an astounding venue — an outdoor amphi theater covered to protect the audience from frequent summer rain storms.
While some in the audience dress up in formal evening attire, it seems this is one opera which doesn’t mind casual wear – fittingin with the city’s casual, ecclectic ambiance – just fine by us.
Festivals and Entertainment in New Mexico.
Globalquerque.
Globalquerque is a statewide celebration of international culture with elements spanning the entire state, culminating in the two-day festival at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. There will be educational workshops, community outreach events, foreign films, a global village featuring international foods and crafts, free family-oriented day programming and, of course, the two-evening ticketed music festival event of the best in World Music on three distinct stages.
Silver City Blues Festival.
The Silver Springs Blues Festival events will be in Gouph Park and other Historic Downtown Venues. The festival features a series of concerts, street dances, food and vendors.
Roswell UFO Festival.
The Roswell UFO Festival is held each year to remember a UFO crash that reportedly occurred in 1947. It is a four-day annual event that has many speakers, workshops, tours and other UFO-related activities for the whole family to enjoy. The festival occurs over the fourth of July weekend
Taos Solar Music Festival.
Dedicated to the power of the sun, this annual June music festival attracts a variety of national performers.
Hatch Chile Festival.
An annual September event, Hatch Chile Festival offers a Chile cooking competition, live entertainment, a country dance and more.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
A week long spectacular event in October featuring Balloon Glow : This is one of the most widely anticipated events of the whole week. Just before dusk, more than 300 balloons are securely tethered and inflated.
Night Glow: A spin-off of Balloon Glow, Night Magic Glow features more than 200 tethered balloons in a twilight display of dazzling light and color.
Special Shape Rodeo : The Special Shape Rodeo has taken this discovery to challenging new heights with appearances by a piggy bank, a three-masted sailing ship, a cow, a tennis shoe, a macaw, a folded newspaper, a motorcycle, a pink dragon and a replica of Noah’s Ark.
